This is the story of a family and their nineteenth-century home.
At the end of the 40s, immediately after the war, many inhabitants of northern Europe were attracted to travel. Among their many destinations stood out also a corner of the world, our corner : Ischia Ischia where poetry, music , nature and history blended together in its very unique way, then and now.
The arrival of the first tourists on the Island were very totally fashinated by its beauty . Most of them took accommodation in Ischia Porto, only few ventured further, as the inner roads had recently been completed.
Road renovation works and more changed the appearance of the island, as well as distorting the uses that the population had had for centuries.
Also for Succhivo, this pleasant vilage, placed on the south part of Ischia Island, surrounded by vineyards and orange groves with its small cluster of houses and its few inhabitants , where time seemed to have stopped, changes were about to come and a new page of history was arriving.
It happened that one day at the end of one spring season arrived in Succhivo a big German young man, budding painter , his name was Diter. People of Succhivo had rarely seen a foreigner. They were farmers, artisans, fishermen, simple people but also hospitable people. Dieter, not knowing where to get accommodation , he asked for hospitality to a local habitant. The local habitant it happen to be Nicola . Diter stayed at Nicola’s house for several days. Taken to heart by Nicola on the day of Diter’s departure, Nicola didn’twant to be paid. For Nicola, Diter had become part of the people at his home, a friend by then!
The following year Dieter returned, but he was not alone, he had brought some friends with him, so year after year the number of tourists increased. Name and the history of Hotel Casa Nicola was born.
Those who came were certainly not looking for luxury, even thought they were wealthy people, they were satisfied with what was there.
They were in love with the place, the life, the sea and the genuineness of the people.
In the evening, when they gathered for dinner, they all sat around large tables. Social background was never an issue . There were no differences, there was conviviality, friendship, the desire to be together, to stop to talk, to sing, and have fun . That was what made our home special!
In the years many famous people have passed through this little house,but important or not, for us all friends.
Over half a century later, the spirit of hospitality has remained the same as it was then. Hotel Casa Nicola is still a big house that now hosts our extended and big family, our precious collaborators ,our old and new customers and friends who willingly return at least once a year to visit us.
The Iacono family continues this tradition of hospitality. Grandma Lucia with her children and grandchildren personally take care of all aspects of the company.
A sojourn at the Hotel Casa Nicola will be like spending it with friends.
